Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican aren't on the list of 30 countries that will require ETIAS, but you can only reach them through Spain, France or Italy. So in practice you will need ETIAS (once it starts) or a Schengen visa, depending on your nationality, to enter the neighboring country.
How you get to each
| Microstate | Reached via | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Andorra | Spain or France | There's a customs check at the border. Leaving Andorra, you re-enter Schengen: carry your passport. |
| Monaco | France | No checks with France. |
| San Marino | Italy | No checks with Italy. |
| Vatican City | Italy (Rome) | Entered from Rome, no border checks for visitors. |
Do the days count?
Since you can only get there through a Schengen country, your travel days usually fall within your Schengen stay. Keep track with the 90/180 calculator.
