The fee went up from the €7 originally announced to €20, as confirmed by the European Commission.

Why do some sites charge $50, $80 or $100?

Laptop with a hook stealing a card: warning about fake websites charging for ETIAS

Because they're middlemen: they file your application on the official website and add a service fee. That's legal if they say so clearly, but they give you nothing you can't do yourself in 10 minutes. And right now, since ETIAS isn't running, nobody can process it.

How you'll pay

Online, during the application, by card. The official website doesn't store your payment data: only the bank or payment provider handling the transaction sees it.

Who counts as a family member (free ETIAS)

Family members of EU citizens, or of citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, don't pay if EU free-movement law applies to them: spouses, registered partners, children under 21 or dependent, and dependent parents. The key condition: the EU relative must be travelling to or living in a country other than their own.

Official example: a Mexican citizen married to a French national who lives in France pays the €20, because free-movement law doesn't apply there. A 19-year-old American son of a French national living in Spain can apply as a family member, free of charge, for travel to Spain.
